SNAKEHEAD HUNTING TRIP

Date : June 10, 2006

Location : Serian - Gedong area of southern Sarawak, Malaysian BORNEO.

Our target for this trip is Channa pleurophthalmus, but at the end of the day, Nasir (hobbyist) caught another Channa baramensis; same species as the one he caught at peat swamp area of Matang, few days ago. This is a big surprise to us as we all thought Channa baramensis (named after Baram river of northern Sarawak) only exist in the drainage system of northern Sarawak, Sabah & Brunei.

Thanks to Nasir, Lam & Melvin for joining this snakehead hunting trip.

Channa pleurophthalmus. This one below is not the wild caught fish.

This is used to be a peat swamp area, now became an oil palm plantation. Channa baramensis was caught at the drain of this plantation.

In this fishing trip, we are using hook & line method. The climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) took the bait first.
