THE SNAIL HUNTING TRIP
Day 1 - northern Padawan limestone hill area.
The first collection point: a hill next to a limestone hill at the northern Padawan area.
Wal, a freshwater snail. Family = Pleuroceridae;
scientific name = Paludomus lacunoides (ALDRICH, 1889)
Clea nigricans. It is a scavenger in the freshwater stream.
A tree snail : Amphidromus similis . Most of them have green colored shells.
Ariophantidae (family name) : probably new species.
Land snail : Cyclophorus perdix borneensis
This is the largest land snail of South East Asia !! It is Bertia brookei, named after our white rajah (king) of Sarawak, James Brooke. It is an endemic species to Borneo.
Hemiplecta species. (probably a new species)
The star of the day : green rhino snail, Rhinocochlis nasuta . (There is a horn on the shell, hence it is called "rhino" snail). It is also an endemic species to Borneo!!
Leptopoma species. (probably a new species)
This is very tiny snail : Alyceaus species.
