Exploring and surveying coastal area of Lundu (2nd page)
We are so happy to see such a clear blue sky in the mid of rainy season. It is so beautiful that we thought we're day dreaming!!

Coconut trees at Pandan beach.

Scenery at Pandan beach:

We were taking our lunch at the beautiful Pandan beach. We felt that we're living in the paradise. After the lunch, we headed to the remote area of Lundu to start our exploration. The road is a narrow tar road. We by passed a few Malay fishing villages and plantation and stopped at a sandy road. As the road condition was not good for my car to drive on, we decided to go hiking.
Photo below: A blackwater river at the end of the tar road.

The white sandy road. This is where I parked my car.

I am reading the Lundu map. I can't find the exact location of this sandy road.

The whole area is the dry kerengas forest ! The padang vegetation is growing along the sandy road. The white sand is very hot. We are feeling like hiking in the savanna of Africa !

Its hot and dry down here!

The junction. To the right is the road to Pugu beach. We are making the wrong decision to turn to the left.

The dead trees. They are burnt either by the natural forest fire or by human.

Another beautiful blackwater river!

Rasbora caudimaculata is spotted !!

Unidentified species of aquatic and half aquatic flora growing in the stream near the road.

Rasbora kalochroma found in the blackwater stream.

After hiking for more than 45 minutes, we reached a small peat swamp. Inside that swamp, I found Rasbora einthovenii, Rasbora kalochroma, Rasbora sumatrana, Rasbora pauciperforata, Trichogaster trichopterus and Belontia hasselti. No wild Betta or Cryptocoryne is found there.

A juvenile of two-spotted gourami. (Trichogaster trichopterus)

I think this is a juvenile of Belontia hasselti.
