JOURNEY TO COLLECT 4 SPECIES OF CRYPTOCORYNE OF SARAWAK

After successfully cultivate Cryptocoryne pallidinervia which I collected in Sibu, I decided to collect a few more species of Cryptocoryne which I found previously in Seri Aman area.

December 3rd, 2004. My cousin, Methos & I came to a freshwater swamp in the upper part of Batang Sadong to collect Cryptocoryne ferruginea. Even though there is a lot of rainfall during the raining season, the water level in that swamp is still pretty low.

Now it's the beginning of raining season, I found out there are lots of fish fry swimming in the swamp.

what a beautiful swamp, but I couldn't stay long because there are too many mosquitoes inside that swamp !!

Then, we went to a peat swamp forest near Batang Seterap.

The tree roots are growing upward so that they can breath the air in the flooded swamp. This is not a good place to collect fish because there are too many roots blocking our way.

This is the Cryptocoryne sp. I found in that swamp in year 2003. I think its Cryptocoryne longicauda.

The close up photo.

This is the same species as above.

My childhood butterfly, common bluebottle (Graphium sarpedon). It is sucking the mineral from the wet ground.

This is Batang Seterap, a blackwater river. There is no road to the upper part of this river so I think I'll explore this river by boat or canoe next time.

Floating village.

Floating gas station for boat.

My favourite insect, the praying mantis.
