THE PEOPLE OF BORNEO
From 2004 to 2005, I took a lot of effort to learn the art of photography. Without attending any classes, I learnt this photography skill through reading a lot of photography magazines and practice the skill almost every weekend. Below are some of my favorite photos taken in the last 2 years using 2 type of cameras : Fuji finepix S5000 and Nikon D50.
Photo #1 : "The bride & the red umbrella" - This shot was taken in 2004. It is not easy to take wedding photography. Every moment is important to photograph as the wedding ceremony will not "repeat" again if I miss the shot.

Photo #2 : "Hair cutting" - This shot was taken during my trip to visit a Bidayuh village on a summit of a hill in year 2005.

Photo #3 : "Girl at the window" - This Bidayuh girl is shocked when she saw me suddenly took up my camera and shot her.

Photo #4 : "Crying" - Diya is a lovely Malay baby. When she saw me for the first time, she was scared and cried out loud. It's a normal reaction for a baby girl. After a while, she started to look calm after her mom trying different methods to comfort & applause her, including giving her some sweets & toys to play with.

Photo #5 : "Two front teeth" - After half an hour later, Diya is started to feel relax and allowed me to get as close as possible to photograph her. She smiles at the camera, at last !!!

Photo #6 : "Kiss me, please...." - This is the cousin of Diya. This shot has won the first prize under the category, "the funniest baby" of the baby photography contest organized by the Sarawak state library in year 2005!!!

Photo #7 : "Street dancing" - This native girl of Borneo is performing a traditional dance on the street of Kuching city during a moon cake festival event organized by local authority. In this shot, I purposely use photoshop to edit this photo (zoom in blur) so that this picture only focus on the facial expression of the dancer nearest to me.

Photo # 8: "Washing" - Three young Bidayuh girls are washing themselves near the riverbank of upper Sarawak river. This picture reflects the daily life of rural folks in the countryside of Borneo. People in the countryside still depend on the river very much.

Photo # 9 : "Morning wash" - In the interior of Kanowit, an Iban lady who wears a traditional hat is washing her clothes while her child taking the bath.

Photo # 10 : " Thinking" - A bidayuh lady is sitting near a cascade in the upper Sarawak river.

Photo # 11 : "Paddling" - During a rafting competition in Bau area, I took this shot of young man who is paddling pass me to the finishing point.

Photo # 12 :"peeking" - A small Iban kid of a longhouse is peeking at me. This picture is cropped. (there is another kid on the left who is looking at other direction)

Photo # 13 :"Laugh out loud" - On the journey to visit some longhouses, I have a wonderful time to photograph these three friends of mine.

Photo # 14 ; "A bicyclist" - On the fishing journey in western Kalimantan of Indonesian Borneo, I asked my driver to stop at the Kapuas bridge for a while. While photographing the longest river in Borneo, Sungai Kapuas; a bicyclist wearing a red track suit is passing me. I waited for a few seconds to adjust the angle and then took this shot.
