EXPLORING EASTERN BIAWAK AREA
Date: May 28, 2006
In this trip, I revisited the site of Cryptocoryne cordata var. zonata. This time, I found the spathe and after observing closely, I realised that the color of the spathe is a bit different from the spathe of the same species from Seri Aman area. And the most exciting part is that.....I found akarensis group of wild fighting fish for the first time in Batang Kayan basin. Betta lehi (pugnax group) also found on that locality.
The next location is somewhere north of that site, near the foothill of Gunung Berumput (4,877 feet). That place is a disturbed Kerangas forest area and a very beautiful species of terrestrial orchid, Dipodium pictum was spotted there. Natural cross hybrid of Nepenthes mirabilis x Nepenthes rafflesiana was found there too. Another species of natural cross hybrid, Nepenthes xneglecta (Nepenthes gracilis x Nepenthes mirabilis) was spotted in another location near Bau - Lundu road.
