LOCALITY NO. 5 - BATANG SAMARAHAN BASIN

 

 

 

 

The habitat. The river is brownish and slow flowing. Water temperature is 16 degree Celsius.

 

 

 

 

Kottelatlimia pristes - In the past, it was grouped under the genus Lepidocephalichthys. But now, this species and it's related species Kottelatlimia katik (from Malay Peninsular) is grouped under new genus, Kottelatlimia. It is differ from Lepidocephalichthys as its second pectoral fin ray is thickened while Lepidocephalichthys is the last pectoral fin ray thickened/enlarged.

 

 

 

 

 

There are a few blackwater creeks in this lowland and swampy forest. Cryptocoryne longicauda is very common here (on the bank). Barclaya motleyi is growing under the water in the middle of this creek.

Malay red harlequin - Paralaxita sp. The coverage area of this species of butterfly is bigger than I thought.

 

 

 

 

 

Probably the insect below is some kind of ichneumon wasp. It has a very long tail. (longer than its body)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

snail - most likely is Trochomorpha sp.

 

 

 

 

Hairy snail - Cyclotus biciliatus on the leaf of fish-tail palm (Caryota sp.)
